According to an e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) report, “ 1,693 registered e-commerce companies’ everyday sales volume rise by almost 350,000 at the last week of Ramadan, that number was around 250,000 at the beginning of the holy month.”
The sector’s business reported receiving a total of 50,000 to 60,000 orders per day during the start of the month which boomed near Eid. According to the association, “The basket value of each client increased from BDT2,200 to BDT 2,500 during the holy month of Ramadan”
Shahabuddin, Vice President of e-CAB said, “We usually see high growth in sales ahead of Eid and it was the same this time even with brick and mortar shops open.” With its Eid Shopping Fest campaign, Daraz Bangladesh even surpassed the previous year’s milestone by generating 91.3% more revenue in April.
According to the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) research, the Bangladesh e-commerce market value is currently BDT22,000 crore which is expected to reach BDT30,000 crore by the end of this year.
Chaldal, the largest online grocery shop in the country also experienced growth in revenue. Waseem Alim, CEO of Chaldal said, “You can safely assume 50% year-on-year growth for the sector. We recorded a 60% business growth surrounding Eid-ul-Fitr and the holy month of Ramadan.” Another top personality of Chaldal said, “Our operations had to be revamped to keep up with the increasing volumes of online orders received surrounding Eid,”
