Selim H. Rahman, the chairman of HATIL, a leading furniture brand in Bangladesh, received the Best Furniture Manufacturer Award from Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi at a ceremony held in Dhaka today.
The award was given by the Bangladesh Furniture Exporters Association (BFEA) in recognition of HATIL’s outstanding contribution to the furniture industry and the national economy. HATIL is the largest furniture exporter in Bangladesh, with a presence in over 40 countries across the world.
In his acceptance speech, Rahman thanked the BFEA and the Commerce Minister for the honor and expressed his gratitude to his customers, employees, suppliers, and partners for their support and trust. He also dedicated the award to his father, the late Habibullah Bahar, who founded HATIL in 1966 and pioneered the modern furniture industry in Bangladesh.
Rahman said that HATIL’s vision is to become a global leader in furniture manufacturing and design and to create value for its stakeholders and society. He said that HATIL is committed to innovation, quality, sustainability, and customer satisfaction and that it follows the highest standards of corporate governance and social responsibility.
He also highlighted some of the achievements of HATIL in the past year, such as launching new products and services, expanding its network of showrooms and dealers, participating in international exhibitions and fairs, and winning several awards and accolades. He said that HATIL is proud to represent Bangladesh in the global furniture market and to showcase its rich heritage and culture through its products.
He also mentioned some of the challenges and opportunities that the furniture industry faces in the current scenario, such as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the changing consumer preferences, the increasing competition, and the need for digital transformation. He said that HATIL is ready to face these challenges and seize the opportunities with its resilience, adaptability, and creativity.
He concluded his speech by urging the government, the BFEA, and the other stakeholders to work together to promote and protect the interests of the furniture industry and to enhance its competitiveness and growth. He said that the furniture industry has a huge potential to contribute to the economic development and social welfare of Bangladesh and that HATIL will continue to play its role as a responsible and reliable partner in this endeavor.
The Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi congratulated Rahman and HATIL for the award and praised their achievements and excellence. He said that the government is supportive of the furniture industry and that it will provide all the necessary facilities and incentives to boost its exports and employment. He also urged the furniture manufacturers to diversify their products and markets, to adopt new technologies and best practices, and to ensure quality and compliance.
The ceremony was attended by the BFEA President Md. Shafiqul Islam, the BFEA Secretary General Md. Shahidul Islam, the BFEA Executive Committee members, the HATIL Board of Directors, the HATIL senior management, the HATIL staff, and the representatives of the media and the civil society.
The event was held at the DITF venue in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre (BBCFEC) in Purbachal, 16.6 km east of Dhaka City. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the fair on January 21. After a month, the DITF was closed on February 20. The Ministry of Commerce and the EPB have organized trade fairs since 1995. The DITF typically commences on January 1 each year. However, the EPB postponed the fair due to the 12th national election.
