The Income Tax Service Month-2022 Commences on November 1

Declaring November as the “Tax Service Month,” the National Board of Revenue (NBR) announced the launch of “Income Tax Service Month-2022” on November 1, 2022. The month-long campaign aims to streamline the process of filing tax returns for FY 2022-23 for all taxpayers.

From November 1 to 14, taxpayers can get services from help desks and return acceptance booths at Bangladesh Secretariat and Officers Club Dhaka. From November 20 to 24, these services will be available in separate booths at the Planning Commission at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The Armed Forces can access the tax return submission and tax information services at  Sena Malancha of Dhaka Cantonment from November 9 to 10.

Taxpayers can access the tax return filing system online through e-payment. Registering through the online system allows taxpayers to prepare and submit tax returns. Through the hotline number – 09612717171, taxpayers can also take advice about e-return. The e-TDS system facilitates access to TIN applications, income tax returns, and A-Challan forms. In addition, return filing guidelines, income tax-related forms, video tutorials, and other relevant information will be available on each tax zone’s website.

The Chairman of NBR, Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem, inaugurated the “Income Tax Service Month-2022” campaign through a press briefing held at the NBR office in Segunbagicha on Tuesday. According to him, all the tax-related services will be available in 649 circles under 31 tax zones countrywide until November 30, 2022. Upon missing this deadline, taxpayers will have to pay 2% interest on the total tax per month.

The NBR Chairman also stated that the program would simplify the tax collection process and gain the confidence and trust of taxpayers. He is hopeful that this event will boost revenue collection and awareness on paying taxes.

The government-set target for income tax collection is Tk 1,38,000 crore for FY23. From this year, all TIN holders must file for tax returns as proof will be required to access 38 services. There are currently 81.82 lakh TIN holders in the country, among which only 25 lakh taxpayers submitted tax returns in 2021. The campaign is expected to increase this number to 40 lakh.

The “Income Tax Service Month-2022” program has been observed to be a new take on the previous “Tax Fair” program. The popular “Tax Fair” used to be held every year since 2010 and successfully collected taxes from almost one-third of taxpayers. However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, NBR canceled it in 2020.
