Breaking The Poverty Cycle: How Kritoggo Foundation Is Making A Difference

Kritoggo Foundation

Breaking the poverty cycle is a significant challenge, but it’s one that Kritoggo Foundation is determined to tackle head-on. With a mission to create positive change through unity, Kritoggo has been making strides toward eradicating poverty in Bangladesh since 2020 and other SDG goals like making sustainable cities, Responsible Consumption, and climate action. Moreover, throughout various campaigns, Kritoggo has collaborated with various organizations to reach more people and build community spirit.

Overview

During the pandemic In 2020, Miss Syeda Nadira Sumaiya was a witness to the harsh reality of Covid’s impact on people’s lives. She saw people who could once afford three meals a day, become uncertain about even having one. Despite the deadly virus, people were forced to work in unsafe conditions as they were the sole breadwinners. While scrolling through social media, she saw several posts and comments where people expressed their sadness and desire to help but didn’t take the next step forward.

It was then that Syeda decided to take the lead and founded Kritoggo Foundation with the aim of helping people understand that being blessed and privileged should be a reason to give back to the underprivileged. Kritoggo is a Bengali word, which means grateful. The organization’s mission is to inspire people to recognize their blessings and use them to create a better world for those who are less fortunate.

Through Kritoggo Foundation, Syeda and her team are promoting the idea of giving back to the community by providing necessary resources to those in need. They have initiated various projects such as food and clothing distribution, education and healthcare support, and environmental campaigns. Kritoggo’s work is a testament to the power of small acts of kindness that can significantly impact people’s lives.

Journey Of Kritoggo Foundation

As a non-profit organization, Kritoggo Foundation was established in October 2020 with a mission to contribute to the development of society. The foundation is passionate about addressing social issues such as poverty, natural disasters, and climate change that have had catastrophic effects on communities. They aim to give back to people what they have been blessed with.

The foundation has been working with communities affected by poverty and natural disasters by sponsoring groceries through the Kritoggo Food Bank, fixing houses through Project Procheshta (a 3-stage plan that ensures food, shelter, and ultimately helps set up a business), and building water plants and purifiers through Project Neer in rural areas.

Kritoggo Foundation began its journey with smaller campaigns and is now working towards contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and creating projects that not only address poverty but also help the environment.

The foundation is dedicated to making a positive impact on society through its projects. They believe that by working together, they can make a significant difference in the world. Kritoggo Foundation is committed to continuing its efforts towards a better future.

Giving Back To The Community

There are few things more pervasive and damaging than poverty. Across the globe, millions of people struggle to make ends meet, facing everything from a  lack of access to basic needs like food, water, and shelter to a dearth of opportunities that might enable them to escape the cycle of poverty altogether. Fortunately, there are organizations working to combat this issue, and one such group is dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.

With a mission to create opportunities that help individuals and communities break free from the poverty cycle, this organization is also committed to maintaining ethical and environmentally-friendly practices. Their vision is for a world where change creates unity and empowers marginalized communities, giving them the chance to thrive rather than simply survive.

One of the group’s notable achievements came in the wake of the Sylhet Flood in 2022. Within just 12 hours of the disaster, they raised a record-breaking amount of funds and were one of the first organizations to provide aid to those affected. They also implemented an aftermath plan called Project Prochesta to help victims become independent.

During Ramadan, the organization launched a new initiative called “10 Takar Bazar” as part of their Foodbank project. This initiative is designed to help beneficiaries feel less embarrassed by their financial circumstances when receiving aid. Instead of simply giving out free food, the program allows recipients to buy groceries and food with their own hard-earned money. And, the money collected from the bazaar is reused for Iftar distribution, keeping the charity chain going strong.

By providing assistance and opportunities for those in need, this organization is making a tangible difference in the lives of many. Their commitment to ethical practices and community empowerment ensures that their work will have a lasting impact, helping to break the cycle of poverty for years to come.

Project Prochesta

Kritoggo launched “Project Prochesta”, an initiative aimed at providing aid to people in need, specifically those who have been victims of abuse, natural calamities, and the marginalized community. The project was launched in June 2022 in Sylhet, Bangladesh, where devastating floods had just occurred.

The project is executed in three phases. In phase 1, the project provides essentials like food, water, and medicine to those in need by distributing grocery bags. Phase 2 aims to develop sustainable living standards for the affected families by providing monetary aid, building materials, and rebuilding damaged houses. The project also extends its help in any form necessary. Finally, phase 3 focuses on creating a stable source of income for the affected families. This is achieved by setting up tea stalls or purchasing sewing machines, helping the families become self-sufficient.

Since its inception, the project has helped a total of 7 families from June 2022 to August 2022. In addition to Prochesta, the project team is also working on Project Neer, which aims to install Tube-wells and water filters to provide clean water to the marginalized community.

The Kritoggo team believes that by providing holistic support to one person, they can help an entire family reach a point where they are no longer donation dependent. They are determined to support the marginalized community and advocate for change. The team hopes to collaborate with similar-minded organizations to reach more people and make a significant impact in their lives.

Future Plans

Kritoggo is currently working on designing campaigns that align with Bangladesh’s SDGs. The objective of these campaigns is to support people while encouraging them to move away from a donation-dependent mindset. Kritoggo’s upcoming project is one of the key activities aimed at addressing poverty, the environment, and promoting unity. The focus will be on Bangladesh’s SDG – 11, 12, and 13. The project is set to launch by the end of this year, and Kritoggo will release more details on their social media platforms from the end of June/July. Stay tuned for updates on how Kritoggo plans to bring about positive change in Bangladesh.
