Winter time is a much-needed break from the scorching heat of the summer. While many of us enjoy the chilly winter days wearing our hoodies and jackets, others spend them huddled up, trying to survive. Quite sadly, many poor people in our country cannot afford even a day’s meal adequately, let alone buy proper winter clothing. In response to this, North South University Social Services Club recently completed a drive to provide these needy people with a small gesture of comfort.
The club has organized one of its annual events, “Winter Clothing Drive 2022,” and distributed blankets and winter clothing donated by the students and respected faculty members of North South University for the underprivileged people living in the area of Dhupchanchiya, Bogura. Through this event, around 800 poor families were provided with blankets as a token of love and warmth.
The event took place on January 6, 2023. And the planning process for it was initiated a month prior to the actual date. On January 5, 2023, tokens were given to the needy people of Dhupchanchiya in order to ensure the proper distribution of winter clothing. For this, some club members visited the location one day prior to the event to distribute the tokens. The humanitarian event commenced at 2:00 P.M. on January 6th, at the school grounds of Dhupchanchiya Girls School, Talora Road, Dhupchanchiya, Bogura. Club members, students, and the authorities of North South University donated blankets and winter clothing to the underprivileged people of that area which was collected throughout December.
The faculty advisor of North South University Social Services Club, Meshbaul Hassan Chowdhury, and the police commissioner of Dhupchanchiya Police Station were present at the event and supported the volunteers throughout the drive. The local authorities expressed great appreciation towards the Social Services club for taking on such a good initiative and encouraged them to carry on these types of noble activities in the coming years too. The police staff of Dhupchanchiya Police Station was also helping the club members in the distribution of the goods by handling the crowd during the event.
At last, the president of the North South University Social Services Club, Md. Mahmudul Islam, delivered a speech. In his speech, he mentioned that the club has always worked for the betterment of underprivileged people in this country. He also added that, in the future, they will do their utmost to stand with the destitute people to ensure that they are not alone in their despair.
