The use of electronics in Bangladesh began way back in the 1930s with the adoption of radio stations and wireless telecommunication networks. Then in the 1950s and 60s, with the development of the private sector and the rise in the number of assembly plants, radio sets and TVs slowly started becoming integrated into Bangladeshi culture. This eventually led to a rise in the popularity of audio and video cassette players in the 1980s. However, the biggest breakthrough in the country came after 1990 with the adoption of computers and mobile phones.
Throughout this development period, several multinational companies saw the potential of the electronics industry in Bangladesh and decided to set up manufacturing and assembly plants in collaboration with local conglomerates. A number of high-profile brands have joined forces with Bangladeshi companies, which include the likes of Samsung, LG, Sharp, Fujitsu General, etc. Moreover, there are many local enterprises that are working independently to bring innovation to the Bangladeshi electronics market.
