Bangladesh’s young talents made the nation proud at the 4th Open World Astronomy Olympiad, held on September 21, 2025, at the Sirius Olympic City in Sochi, Russia. The prestigious event brought together 90 contestants from 20 countries, both in person and online, to compete in the global scientific competition.
The Bangladesh team, consisting of six talented students, secured remarkable results, earning multiple medals and honours. The event was organized by the Russian Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Sirius Education Center, with the closing ceremony held today at the Sirius Conference Center, attended by Professor Dr. Oleg Malakhov and senior officials from the Russian Ministry of Education.
Bangladesh’s Achievements:
- Gold Medal: Md. Mokhdum Amin Fahim (Grade 10, Police Lines Secondary School, Jashore)
- Silver Medals: Saptarshi Rahman (A-Level, Heed International School, Dhaka) and Md. Radit Raiyan (Grade 12, Adamjee Cantonment College, Dhaka)
- Bronze Medal: Md. Zubayer Hossain Zisan (Grade 8, Rajshahi Collegiate School, Rajshahi)
- Honourable Mention: Sayantan Roy (Grade 9, South Herald English School, Khulna)
The outstanding achievements of these young students have brought immense pride and recognition to Bangladesh. Shahpar Alam, Director of the Bangladesh Astro-Olympiad National Committee, expressed his congratulations, stating, “Our young students have made Bangladesh’s name shine on the global stage. Their success will inspire future generations to pursue science with even greater passion.”
The team will be warmly welcomed upon their return to Dhaka at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at 4:00 PM. Their remarkable accomplishment marks a significant milestone for Bangladesh in the field of science and education.
