In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the North South University Social Services Club successfully organized its annual Winter Clothing Drive 2024, aimed at providing much-needed warmth to underprivileged families in rural Sreemangal, Sylhet. The event, held on December 26, 2024, reached its goal of spreading relief to over 1,000 vulnerable families facing the challenges of harsh winter conditions.
A Collaborative Effort for a Noble Cause
The initiative kicked off with the collective dedication of more than 250 club members, who mobilized students, faculty, and staff across North South University to donate warm clothes, blankets, and other essential winter items. This year’s drive saw a generous outpouring of support from the university community, furthered by a special grant from the university, which contributed to the large collection of new cozy blankets and clothing.
On December 26, a team of 40+ club members traveled to Sreemangal, Moulovibazar, Sylhet, to deliver the donations. The distribution took place at several key locations, including Sindurkhan Bagan, South Par, and Medical Playground, ensuring that the most vulnerable families received the relief they desperately needed.
Gratitude and Recognition
Faculty Advisor Meshbaul Hassan Chowdhury praised the unwavering commitment of the club members, acknowledging that their tireless efforts were crucial to the success of this year’s Winter Clothing Drive. He also expressed heartfelt thanks to the North South University authority for their generous contributions, which were integral to making the event a memorable celebration of compassion, unity, and community support.
“The Winter Clothing Drive 2024 embodies the spirit of community and service, and we are proud to have been part of such a transformative initiative,” said Chowdhury.
Strengthening Community Bonds
Through this initiative, the North South University Social Services Club not only alleviated the immediate hardships of families in Sreemangal but also helped foster a sense of social responsibility and empathy among university students. This year’s event marked a significant milestone in the club’s ongoing efforts to make a positive impact in communities in need. Last year, the Winter Clothing Drive took place in Dupchacia, Bogura.
