A joint venture between Canada-China will invest $5.74 million to launch a diversified manufacturing industry in the country’s Bepza Economic Zone. Goodwood (Dhaka) will produce 10,000 tonnes of disposable wooden cutlery such as knives, forks, spoons, stirrers, etc., and medical equipment such as swabs, tongue depressors, etc., annually and will create 1,990 job opportunities for Bangladeshi nationals.
According to the Daily Star, Including Goodwood (Dhaka) Company, Bepza has approved seven companies to set up industries in Bepza Economic Zone. The proposed investment of the other six companies, which have already signed the lease agreement, sums up to $114.37 million, where 32,962 Bangladeshi nationals will get employment opportunities.
Ali Reza Mazid, a member of investment promotion at Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (Beza), and Li Xin, project manager of Goodwood (Dhaka) Co Ltd, signed an agreement at Bepza Complex Dhaka April 5. Beza Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman was present at the signing ceremony.
Among other Bepza Members, Executive Director Md Zakir Hossain Chowdhury, Executive Director Nazma Binte Alamgir, Executive Director Md Tanvir Hossain, Executive Director Md Khorshid Alam, and Project Director of Bepza Economic Zone Md Hafizur Rahman were also present at the signing ceremony.
