HR Calibration 4.0: Bridging the Gap Between Academia and Corporate HR Practices

The GRAND FINALE and GALA NIGHT of “Bengal Tea Presents HR Calibration 4.0” marked a significant milestone in the country’s human resources landscape. Organized by the Human Resources Club (NSU HR CLUB) at North South University (NSU), this prestigious inter-university business case competition showcased innovative solutions to pressing HR challenges in the corporate sector. Held in the Bashundhara residential area of Dhaka, the event brought together students from 32 universities, culminating in a dynamic finale featuring seven finalist teams.

The month-and-a-half-long competition aimed to address the gap between academic training and the corporate job market. Participants explored themes such as employee mental health, maternity and paternity leave policies, and fostering employee-friendly environments. The Walking Debt team from Bangladesh University of Professionals claimed the championship, followed by Team 1D and Rise of the Professional Apes, both from NSU, as runners-up.

Leadership and Vision in HR

North South University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, highlighted the event’s significance, stating, “In Bangladesh, human resource issues often go unnoticed. This initiative by our HR Club offers a promising step toward addressing these challenges.”

The event also hosted key figures like Dr. AKM Waresul Karim, Dean of the School of Business and Economics at NSU, and Sajjat Sarwar, General Manager of Tea Operations at Bengal Tea City Group. Faculty Advisor Tasnim Tarannum and the club’s President, Sheikh Rishad Ul Arab, emphasized the evolving priorities of Gen Z employees, who value mental well-being and workplace culture over traditional incentives.

Transforming HR Practices Through Collaboration

Judges, including esteemed professionals and academics, praised the innovative problem-solving skills exhibited by the participants. The event underscored the transformative potential of such competitions, empowering future HR leaders with real-world experience, teamwork skills, and leadership capabilities.

Title sponsor, Bengal Tea, alongside co-sponsor Global Brand and other associate sponsors like Business Inspection, Bombay Sweets, Bridal Heritage, Kaler Kontho, and others contributed to making this event a resounding success.
