Saif Powertec Finances Tk 1,600cr to Build Multipurpose Jetty at the Mongla Port

Yesterday Saif Powertec officially announced that it has invested around Tk 1,600 crore to build a multipurpose jetty which will handle container and cargo ships simultaneously. Tarafder Md Ruhul Amin, managing director of Saif Powertec, stated that the jetty will be able to handle two ships at a time after the completion of its construction by June 2023.

When the jetty is fully deployed, it would be capable of handling nearly one crore tonnes of break-bulk cargo and 350,000 TEUs of containers. In 2019, the Mongla Port Authority (MPA) gave Saif permission to develop the jetty on a build, operate, and transfer basis, and work began the following year.

According to Amin’s statement, till now 45% of the jetty construction work at the Mongla port has been completed, with about half of the investment made. In the port city of Halishahar, the logistics provider is also constructing the first multimodal container terminal on Bangladesh Railway (BR) territory. The depot will have the capacity to accommodate 300,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).

Saif Logistics Alliance recently conveyed interest in building another multimodal container port on railway land near Narsingdi’s Ghorashal railway station.
