South Korea has been investing in Bangladesh’s RMG sector since its rise. Bangladesh started its journey of 100 percent export-oriented readymade garments with the assistance of South Korea. The 5th largest country in terms of foreign direct investment in Bangladesh, South Korea has expressed their interest in investing in other industrial sectors in the country apart from the readymade garment (RMG) for mutual benefits of both the countries. During a courtesy call with The President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Md Jashim Uddin on Sunday 20th February 2022, The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Lee Hang-Keun expressed his country’s interest in Investing in various potential sectors in Bangladesh.
He said “Now South Korea is keen to develop Bangladesh-Korea’s success in other sectors as well apart from the RMG,” He also mentioned that marking the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-South Korea diplomatic relations, Seoul wanted to take the bilateral relations to a new level in 2022.
Mr Jashim Uddin said that the FBCCI would discuss with the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) on organizing roadshows or investment summits in South Korea to highlight the investment opportunities in Bangladesh. The meeting also agreed to hold a business dialogue this year in a joint venture between Korea-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KBCCI) and FBCCI.
